Welcoming new Research Students

Enrolment is coming up soon for new Research Students at UWS, so we would like to welcome you and invite you to be involved with the Research Students' Society.

You don't need to do anything to be represented by us. In fact, you can ignore us completely if you want to! But you are always welcome to get in touch with us if you have any problems or questions at all, or if you would just like to socialise a little.

Click "Read more" to find out more about us...

Activities
We organise 3 main activities as a society:
  • Social -- opportunities to get to know other research students, including our monthly "Pub Lunch Friday" and our annual Christmas meal
  • Research -- a programme of talks throughout the trimester, giving you a chance to find out what other research students are doing
  • Business -- quarterly meetings of the society to discuss important issues and take necessary actions

If all you want to do is come to the social events, then that is OK... but we would love to see you at the other events too. Information about events is usually sent out via email (contact Peter to be included on the mailing list), and hopefully it will be posted here in future too.

Facilities
There is a Research Students' Common Room available for your use on the Paisley campus, all day, every day. It is room F102a, and you can access it from the Snack Bar on the ground floor of F block. A security combination is required to access the room. Again, contact Peter for information, and please do not share the code as the room is for use by Research Students only.

The Common Room has recently been improved a lot (thank you IRO!), and includes some great facilities for relaxing and making your lunch.

And Finally...
Being a Research Student isn't always easy. There are ups and downs, lots of challenges to face, and sometimes a lot of isolation. Remember that we are here to support each other as a community. Everybody involved in running the Research Students' Society is a research student too, so we know what you are facing.

Please do get involved with the society if you are able to. We would be delighted to get to know you.

  1. Er.... I received three emails, including one on the day, telling me/reminding me to enrol as a continuing research student in Room A323, Paisley Campus on 16th September. In fact, students in the School of Education were supposed to enrol in Craigie on 1st October. Some break-down in communication somewhere?

  2. As far as I was aware, all continuing research students were allowed to re-enrol on the 16th September. Were you actually turned away on the day?
