What about other postgrads?

Are you a Postgraduate Taught (PgT) student here at UWS? If you are looking for a group which represents you during your time doing a Masters (or similar) qualification, then please contact the President of the Students' Association:

Currently, a condition of our funding is that the Research Students' Society is simply one 'branch' of the "Postgraduate and Research Student Society", which was established as a 'STAR group' by the SAUWS a few years ago. However, there are no Postgraduate Taught students currently organising the other branch.

We can't practically organise that side of things ourselves ("full time" to a PhD student means "full time"!), although we are very willing to stay in touch with such a branch if it forms. It would be a good opportunity for PgTs to find out more about life as a PgR (Postgraduate Research Student), and decide if they would like to take their studies to the next level. We also have talks periodically given by our PgRs about various research areas which may be of interest to PgTs, and I'm sure many PgTs would be able to give interesting talks too.

At the next quarterly meeting of the Research Students' Society, we will be discussing this issue (it should occur around mid-December). A vote will be taken regarding our continued affiliation with SAUWS. The decision may be that the funding as a STAR group is not worth the restrictions imposed, in which case we will disaffiliate. At that point, we may seek to gain funding as a social society, or simply revert to being completely self-funded.

Watch this space for details!
